Living with the castle lord's.
Haunted by misfortune.
Neuhaus Castle is located in the center of the tourism region Apple land - lake Stubenberg - high above the "Feistritzklamm" with a wide view over the Stubenberg basin with its well-known bathing lake. It was built as a fief somewhere in the middle of the 14th century by the Stubenberg family. In 1375, Hans von Neuhaus was mentioned in documents for the first time. The Drachsler family followed, and the castle was destroyed by conflagration in 1551, however it was rebuilt soon after that. Due to the threat of the Turks and Kuruces it was reinforced in the 17th century with its characteristic shield wall.
The Wurmbrand family, who came after that, left the castle in the 2nd half of the 18th century, after merging with the dominion Schielleiten. In the year 1800, the castle once again set on fire by a lightning strike and then fell into ruin. Then it was left to decay for about 200 years. The revitalisation began with the current owners in 1982.
Phoenix from the ashes.
But today, after approximately thirty years of laborious restoration by the Vetter von der Lilie family, Neuhaus Castle no longer is in the maps as "ruin", but finally drawn again as "castle".
