Fantastic celebrations in the "Styrian spa region".
Welsdorf was originally a part of the barony "Stein" in Fürstenfeld. Christof Perner sold the small estate at the beginning of the 16th
century and it became a so-called "Meierhof" (home of the administrator (so-called "Meier") of a noble or spiritual grange). Around 1550 this estate was acquired by Wolf von Wilfersdorf. His son, Jonas built next to the "Meierhof" a noble residence. For this he received permission to call it "Wolfsdorf" from Archduke Ferdinand in 1603. In 1605 the "haiduk's" burned down "Welsdorf Castle" and the addjoining "Meierhof". Both were successively reconstructed in the following years. The "Augustinian monastery Pöllau" (canon monastery) bought the residence Welsdorf in 1701 and the castle served as summer residence for the provosts. Around 1716 Johann Ernst Orttenhofen expanded Welsdorf. The emblems above the portal still reminds us of that time. Three, of the former four massive square corner towers are still preserved. Welsdorf Castle was once surrounded by a wall and bastions. But today, only fragments are preserved from the former fortifications.
