Čakovec Castle
The complex of Old town Zrinski Čakovec is the largest secular monument in Međimurje County with the status of a protected immovable cultural asset of national significance for the Republic of Croatia. It is one of the most significant examples of architectural cultural heritage in Croatia. It represents a unique, multi-layered preserved complex of noble residential and defensive architecture. It was named after the famous family of Croatian bans and fearless warriors - defenders of the borders of the Hungarian-Croatian kingdom from the Ottoman invasion, the Zrinski family. Since 1954, the Museum of Međimurje Čakovec has been operating in the Old Town. The complex consists of a central four-sided palace with an internal atrium and external fortification. In addition to exhibition spaces, the complex also includes the Bedem cafe bar, the Stari grad restaurant, a souvenir shop and a Multimedia Hall for various events. The fortification area is fully adapted for people with disabilities, with special emphasis on blind and visually impaired people.
